this is me
seeker: Since childhood, I’ve been drawn to Spirit. As a child, that looked like swinging my legs in the pew of my home church, listening to hymns and breathing in the sweet earthy smell of incense. As a teenager, it looked like furious journaling, and small group Bible studies, and a lot of angst. As I grew up, it looked like devouring memoirs, a passion for food systems that connect us to the earth, and cross-cultural experiences. Throughout my life, there is a golden thread of the divine drawing me along; and while my expression of faith has evolved, I have always been certain that there is something holy around us and in us and among us.
priest: What a gift it is to be called Mother Mary Lynn. I’ve been a parish priest for the past eight years, serving in San Diego, California. As an Episcopal priest, I am honored to walk alongside folks through the mundane, miraculous, and everything in between, pointing to the Holy in the midst of all of it. To me, being a priest is all about connection and relationship - with God, with others, and with the Self. Whether I’m presiding at an altar in a meadow, preaching from a pulpit in a church building, or meeting a new friend for coffee to talk about life’s big questions, being a priest is my Most Favorite Thing.
parent: Parenting is the most bizarre calling - I longed for it all my life, and love my two children with a ferocity that sometimes scares me. And yet, it challenges me daily, in ways I never expected. My kids - now 4 and 6 years old - are currently very into dinosaurs, outer space, and making Shrinky-dinks (remember those?!).
artist: Art-making is my most essential spiritual practice. When I’m creating - through writing, collage, dance, music-making - I am most connected with my Self and with the Holy. My journaling practice keeps me grounded, keeps me alive. My art desk is an explosion of cut paper, glitter, stickers, markers, paint and tape.
connector: I experience God most intensely through connections, through relationships. I love to meet new people, to share my story and learn theirs. I have somehow always known innately that vulnerability creates connection, that sharing our suffering and our joys with one another is the Way. I am a follower of Jesus in this way, as I model my life after the One who crossed boundaries in order to connect, in order to build the Beloved Community.
